Milan Closes Out Stage 6 in Naples For A Third Sprint Victory Of The 2026 Corsa Rosa — Maglia Ciclamino Ledger Extends To 188 Points On The Eve Of Blockhaus

Jonathan Milan has taken a third sprint victory of the 2026 Giro d'Italia on the Naples Lungomare Caracciolo, closing out the 192-kilometre Matera-to-Naples Campania-corridor transition with the cleanest pre-Blockhaus sprint signature any Lidl-Trek lead-out has produced across the closing 2026 corsa rosa. The Italian sprinted clear of Paul Magnier and Kaden Groves inside the closing 200 metres on the Caracciolo straight, extending his maglia ciclamino ledger to 188 points and confirming the post-Cosenza form curve through a third clean sprint victory across the closing six-stage opening block.

The 192-kilometre transition out of Matera rolled out at 11:00 under a clear Campania sky, with the early break clipping off the front inside the closing fifteen kilometres of the neutralised section. A four-rider move containing Davide Bais, Filippo Fiorelli, Mirco Maestri and Andrea Pietrobon eventually established a maximum gap of four minutes and forty seconds on the rolling Campania interior, before the Lidl-Trek lead-out train began its closing pull-back through the final eighty kilometres of the run-in. The breakaway was reabsorbed with twelve kilometres remaining, leaving the closing sprint frame intact.

Inside the closing five kilometres, Lidl-Trek committed early on the Lungomare Caracciolo, with Simone Consonni and Jasper Stuyven stretching the front of the bunch through the closing technical right-hand sweep at four kilometres to go. Soudal Quick-Step answered through Bert Van Lerberghe, opening the closing two-kilometre frame for Magnier, while Alpecin-Deceuninck moved Groves into the closing third wheel through the final kilometre kite.

On the closing 350-metre straight Milan came past Magnier with the cleanest single-effort acceleration the Italian has produced across the closing 2026 spring block, opening a one-and-a-half-length gap inside the final 150 metres before crossing the line with a clear margin. Magnier held on for second, with Groves rounding out the podium ahead of Dylan Groenewegen and Casper van Uden. The maglia ciclamino now reads at Milan 188, Magnier 142 and Groves 96 ahead of Friday's Naples-to-Blockhaus first-mountain-summit reference.

"The lead-out was the cleanest we have produced this Giro," Milan said in his closing flash interview on the Caracciolo finish straight. "The whole team has been together every kilometre since Cosenza, and tonight we close a third sprint victory before the mountains. From tomorrow it is a different race, and tomorrow is for the climbers." The Italian heads into the Blockhaus mountain-summit transition with a 46-point cushion in the maglia ciclamino and a clean platform on which to defend the points jersey across the closing Sicily transfer block.

Jonas Vingegaard finished safely in the closing front group of the peloton, defending the maglia rosa for a third consecutive evening and entering the Blockhaus reference with the closing 17-second overall margin he carried into Matera intact. Visma-Lease a Bike shielded the Dane through the final twenty kilometres on the run-in, with Wilco Kelderman and Sepp Kuss visible at the front of the bunch on the closing Caracciolo approach. Giulio Pellizzari, Egan Bernal and Ben Healy all finished in the same time.

The peloton transfers overnight to Naples ahead of Friday's 244-kilometre Stage 7 Naples-to-Blockhaus mountain-summit reference, the closing first proper mountain test of the 2026 corsa rosa. The 13.6-kilometre 8.4% Blockhaus ramp is forecast to compress the closing GC frame inside a 90-second window, with Vingegaard 4/5, Pellizzari 6/1, Bernal 8/1 and Healy 12/1 on the closing pre-stage market.
